PsyMetRiC – a new tool to predict physical health risks in young people with psychosis

Researchers from the University of Birmingham have introduced PsyMetRiC, a digital risk calculator designed to predict the likelihood of developing cardiometabolic conditions in young people experiencing first-episode psychosis.

The tool uses routinely collected clinical information to estimate an individual’s future risk of conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome. By identifying people at higher risk early, PsyMetRiC can support healthcare professionals in delivering personalised prevention strategies, including lifestyle interventions and closer physical health monitoring.

PsyMetRiC represents an important step towards integrating precision medicine into routine mental healthcare, helping clinicians address both mental and physical health needs through earlier, data-driven decision-making.
